How To Verify Magento Store In Google Webmaster Tools
Today I decided to write a beginner guide for verifying your Magento store in Google Webmasters tool so you can easily diagnose SEO issues on your website and optimize your organic traffic by fixing those issues. If you are reading this article, I assume you already have a Magento store, so Let’s go through the process of verifying your Magento website in Google Webmaster Tools using Meta Tag.
1) I’ve assumed you do not yet have any websites in your Webmaster Tools account, so first you need to create a free account at Google Webmaster tools. You can simply sign up using your Gmail address. You need to add a property (which is basically your website address) to Google Webmaster tools.
2) Next screen will show you a different way to verify your ownership. In this tutorial, we will with the HTML tag method. As you choose HTML tag method, you will be presented a meta tag code which you need to copy and paste in the header section of Magento store.
3) Go to your Magento Store and log in with your Admin account. On the top menu bar, navigate to System > Configuration.
4) Locate “General” section on the left sidebar and then go to Design.
Under “HTML Head” paste the Google Webmaster HTML tag in the input field next to “Miscellaneous Scripts“.
Click on on the Save Config button on the top right side, and you can then go back to Webmaster Tools and complete the verification process.
NOTE- After you verify your domain, next step is to add a sitemap to Google Webmasters tools. A sitemap is an XML file that lists every products and page on your site and we submit this sitemap file to Google Webmaster tools to inform Google about the URLs from of website we want to index in search engines.
